Animal rights activist Angels Nair has filed a PIL seeking the state government’s implementation of CAG recommendations to prevent and mitigate human–wildlife conflicts.
The plea urges immediate restoration of forest and wildlife habitats to safeguard farmers and tribal communities from wild animal attacks.
Nair demands stringent measures against Chakkittapara Grama Panchayat for allegedly empanelling 20 shooters to kill wild animals, calling the move “anti-national” and “treason.”
The petition seeks a ban on the Forest Department’s Rapid Response Team’s elephant-repelling activities and removal of unscientific barricades, claiming they provoke elephant retaliation and qualify as ‘hunting’ under the Wildlife Protection Act.
