Indian javelin throw champion Neeraj Chopra made history at the 2025 Doha Diamond League with a throw of 90.23 metre on May 16, breaking the 90m-mark and fulfilling his long-standing dream. With this achievement, India’s golden boy has become 25th in the world and the third Asian javelin thrower to break the elite mark.
“I feel really good. The last throwing sessions were really great. I am ready. I am very excited to open my season in Doha,” Chopra had said on Thursday.
He scripted yet another history by breaking the 90m mark in his third attempt at the league. On the first attempt, the throw hit 88.44m, fouled in the second attempt and completed his dream in the third try, as the saying goes, third time’s a charm.
India’s golden boy is now placed 23rd in the world heading mark table in men’s javelin throw. Chopra’s coach, Jan Zelenzny of the Czech Republic, leads the world mark table with a world record throw of 98.48m made in 1996.
Out of the total 25 javelin throwers in the 90m-mark breach category in the world, Germany tops the list with six throwers, followed by Finland with four, Czech Republic with two and one each from Grenada, Pakistan, Kenya, Russia, Greece, Norway, Great Britain, Chinese Taepei, USA, Latvia, Estonia and Trinidad and Tobago and Neeraj Chopra from India being the recent addition.
