Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has rescheduled its entrance tests, originally slated for May 10 and 11, for students from Jammu and Kashmir.
The university, in a statement on Friday, said, "JMI announces rescheduling of the Admission Tests to be held on May 10-11, 2025 for students of Jammu and Kashmir." The decision has been taken "considering the ongoing situation and factoring in the well-being of students," it said.
The entrance exams for various programmes for the 2025-26 academic session began on April 26 and are scheduled to conclude by May 31. Tests for some programmes are scheduled on May 10 and 11.
According to sources as quoted by India Today, Rajnath Singh on Friday directed the Army to launch "strong and punitive action" in response to Pakistan’s shelling. The instruction came after a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Modi and the chiefs of the three armed forces.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Friday approved the immediate disbursement of about USD 1 billion to Pakistan under the ongoing Extended Fund Facility, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.
“Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over the approval of a USD 1bn dollar instalment for Pakistan by the IMF and the failure of India’s high-handed tactics against it," according to a statement issued by the PMO.
In the backdrop of the ongoing military conflict between India and Pakistan, a senior official in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday said "we should remain hopeful" that the existing situation does not escalate.
Dammu Ravi, Secretary (Economic Relations) in the MEA, was responding to a query on the impact of any conflict on the economy and the resilience required in such matters.
Interacting with audience at an event hosted by Public Affairs Forum of India (PAFI), Ravi said, "Security, development and economic growth are highly inter-linked concepts around the world. In a conflict situation, the industry will naturally recoil. It will take time for the situation to improve," Ravi said.

In separate cases, a woman college student living in Pune and a young man in Bhiwandi were arrested on Friday for allegedly posting messages in support of Pakistan on social media.
A Hindu rightwing group had claimed that Khatija Shaikh (19), student of an engineering college in Pune, had posted the slogan "Pakistan Zindabad" among other things on her Instagram account.

The comments by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt came as military action between India and Pakistan intensified following India's strike on nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir(PoK) under ‘Operation Sindoor' early Wednesday. India's strike was a powerful retaliation to the Pahalgam massacre on April 22, in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed.
The father of Murali Naik, a soldier from Andhra Pradesh who laid down his life during the cross-border shelling in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch, on Friday said his son joined the Army despite his opposition as he wanted to serve the nation.
He said his 23-year-old son wanted to don the army uniform for at least a year.
Murali, who was selected in the army as an Agniveer in 2022, died in the line of duty in the early hours of Friday.

Regrettably, an armed drone targeted a civilian area in Ferozpur, resulting in injuries to members of a local family. The injured have been provided medical assistance and the area has been sanitised by security forces. The Indian Armed Forces are maintaining a high state of alert, and all such aerial threats are being tracked and engaged using counter-drone systems.
The situation is under close and constant watch & prompt action is being taken wherever necessary. Citizens, especially in border areas, are advised to remain indoors, limit unnecessary movement, and strictly follow safety instructions issued by local authorities. While there is no need for panic, heightened vigilance and precaution are essential.

Amid rising cyber threats, the cyber cell of Chandigarh Police has issued a nationwide alert highlighting increased activity from the Pakistan-linked hacking group APT36, also known as Transparent Tribe. Authorities are urging both individuals and organisations to exercise caution and follow robust cybersecurity practices.
“Their primary tactics include phishing emails, infected mobile apps, spyware, and embedding hidden malware on educational or research websites to gain unauthorised access to sensitive information,” said a Cyber Crime Cell official.

Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued multiple Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), announcing the temporary suspension of civilian flight operations at 32 airports across northern and western India. This marks an increase from the earlier closure of 24 airports, which was in place until May 10.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the current closure will remain effective from May 9 until 05:29 IST on May 15, citing "operational reasons."

The back-and-forth between the armies of the two countries following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack has sparked speculation that it is a war-like situation between the two nuclear nations, but no formal announcement has been made yet.

Pakistan’s military has accused India of launching missile strikes on three of its airbases, according to Geo News. Citing Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) the local news portal said that, Indian aircraft fired ground-to-air missiles at Nur Khan Airbase, PAF Base Murid, and PAF Base Shorkot, also known as Rafiqui Base.
General Chaudhry further alleged that India also fired missiles into Afghanistan, describing the action as “highly dangerous” and part of a larger attempt to destabilise the region.
There have been no comments from the Indian government regarding such attacks so far.
