India has begun implementing the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), signed in March 2024.
The pact secures a commitment of USD 100 billion FDI over 15 years from EFTA members — Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said India is also looking at an additional USD 150 billion once data exclusivity in IP laws is finalised, taking the potential inflow to USD 250 billion.
Data exclusivity would protect innovator companies’ trial data in pharma, preventing rivals from launching low-cost versions during exclusivity.
Goyal noted that India has built trust with Europe on IP through stronger enforcement and robust provisions in recent trade pacts.
