India, Brazil, and South Africa (IBSA) voiced serious concern over unilateral tariff and coercive measures, warning they destabilise world markets and undermine WTO norms.
The statement comes after the US imposed 50% tariffs on imports from India and Brazil last month.
IBSA ministers — India’s S Jaishankar, Brazil’s Mauro Vieira, and South Africa’s Sindisiwe Chikunga — termed such measures “discriminatory and inconsistent” with WTO rules.
They called for urgent reform and restoration of the WTO’s dispute settlement system, noting the December 2024 deadline agreed at the 13th WTO ministerial conference was missed.
Emphasised the need for a fair, transparent, non-discriminatory global trading system with WTO at its core.
