Holi 2025 Bank Holiday: When Banks Will Remain Closed? Check Your City-Wise Closure Schedule

Holi 2025 is around the corner as India gears up to celebrate the festival of colours on March 14, 2025. However, there is some confusion regarding bank holiday dates due to regional differences in Holi celebrations. While some banks may remain closed on March 13, 14 and 15, others may remain open. Additionally, banks will be closed on March 16 (Sunday).

The day prior to Holi is marked by ‘Holika Dahan’ along with some regional festivals like Dhulandi and the Attukal Pongala festival. Similarly, the day after Holi is the Yaoshang festival. Beyond Holi, different states and regions will observe bank holidays based on their regional festivals.

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regulation under the Negotiable Instruments Act, banks will be closed on certain days depending on regional customs. Check the state-wise bank holiday list of Holi 2025.

Bank Holidays on March 13

On March 13, 2025, banks in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Kerala will observe holidays due to Holika Dahan and Attukal Pongala festivals. Holika Dahan, marking the victory of good over evil, is celebrated in northern states, leading to bank closures in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand. Simultaneously, in Kerala, banks will be closed for Attukal Pongala, a significant festival honouring the goddess Attukal Devi.

Bank Holidays on March 14

On March 14, 2025, banks in several Indian states and Union Territories will observe a holiday due to the celebration of Holi, the vibrant festival of colours that signifies the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil.

However, banks in Tripura, Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Manipur, Kerala and Nagaland will remain open, as these states do not observe a bank holiday on this date. This is because the festival of Holi, which prompts bank closures in many other regions, is not a significant public holiday in these states.

Bank Holidays on March 15

On March 15, 2025, most banks will be open as it is the third Saturday of the month, which is a working Saturday.

Banks in select Indian regions will observe holidays due to local festivals. In Tripura, banks in Agartala will be closed for Holi celebrations. In Odisha, banks in Bhubaneswar will also observe a holiday for Holi.

In Manipur, banks in Imphal will remain closed for the second day of Yaoshang, a festival akin to Holi, celebrated with traditional music, dance and sports. Additionally, in Bihar, banks in Patna will be closed for Holi festivities. These closures reflect the cultural significance of these festivals in their respective regions.
