Net foreign direct investment recovered to $6.95 billion in FY26 from $960 million in FY25, but stayed significantly below $27.99 billion in FY23 as increased investor repatriation and higher overseas direct investment (ODI) outflows offset record gross inflows.
Gross FDI reached a record $94.84 billion in FY26, while the government said liberalised ODI rules are enabling Indian companies to expand globally and stronger repatriation reflects healthy returns for foreign investors.
The Centre highlighted measures including buffer stocks, subsidised food sales, tax relief and GST rationalisation to curb inflation, while reiterating that the rupee is market-determined and the RBI intervenes only to manage excessive volatility.
