Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman urged Income Tax officials to make taxpayer services more citizen-friendly and avoid making people "run from pillar to post" for routine approvals.
She criticised the "laidback" functioning of government departments that leads to encroachments on government land and stressed the need for better asset management and faster administrative processes.
Sitharaman also called on Income Tax officials to uphold integrity in tax administration and promised to address issues related to official housing and office infrastructure.
