Miners’ body FIMI urged the government not to impose export duty on low-grade iron ore.
It warned that such a move would cause resource wastage, harm mining operations, reduce jobs, and create environmental risks from stockpiled fines.
In a letter to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, FIMI said low-grade iron ore has little domestic demand, as the steel industry uses only high-grade ore (+62% Fe).
