Eid-al-Adha 2025 Holiday: What’s Open and What’s Closed Across India on June 6 & 7

Eid-al-Adha, also known as Bakrid, is likely to be observed on Saturday, June 7 in India, subject to the sighting of the crescent moon. Most public offices, banks, and educational institutions are expected to remain closed in observance of the occasion.

Also known as Eid al-Zuha, marks the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ishmael. As the second-holiest festival in Islam, the day is marked with prayers and community feasts.

Are Banks Open on Bakrid?

Banks in Thiruvananthapuram to remain close on Friday, June 6 on the occasion of Bakrid. On Saturday, June 7, 2025, banks across the rest of the country will be closed, except in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.

The banks in five cities will function as usual as this would be the first Saturday of the month, despite the festival.

Will Markets Remain Open on Eid?

As per the official holiday calendar, the Indian stock markets—NSE (National Stock Exchange) and BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange)— will remain open on both Friday, June 6. It says that Bakrid is not a trading holiday for the stock exchanges.

Are Government Offices Closed on Eid?

Most government offices across India are expected to remain closed on Saturday, June 7, 2025, for Eid-al-Adha (Bakrid), which is listed as a gazetted holiday. However, final confirmation of the date depends on the sighting of the crescent moon.

As per a notice by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, any change in holiday dates for offices in Delhi—for festivals like Idu’l Fitr, Idu’l Zuha, Muharram, and Id-e-Milad—will be announced after consultation with the Government of NCT of Delhi, once the moon sighting is confirmed.

For offices outside Delhi, the Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committees in State Capitals can change holiday dates for Idu'lFitr, Idu'l Zuha, Muharram, and Id-e-Milad, based on decisions from State Governments or Union Territories, the notice states.

Schools, Colleges Closed on Eid al-Zuha

Most schools and colleges across India are expected to remain closed on Saturday, June 7, 2025, for Eid al-Adha. However, the holiday date may vary depending on the official announcement following the moon sighting.

Educational institutions will follow state or local government notifications regarding holiday observance.
