China has agreed in principle to resume trade through Shipki-La in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district, suspended since 2020 due to COVID-19.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar informed the state that India is in talks with China on reopening all three designated border trade points—Shipki-La (HP), Lipulekh (Uttarakhand), and Nathu La (Sikkim).
Himachal CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had urged the Centre to push for reopening the historic Indo-Tibetan route, after which the Union government raised the issue with China.
