The incident occurred when alert BSF troops detected suspicious movement near the border, a BSF spokesperson said. The BSF engaged the infiltrators, neutralising them and causing extensive damage to the Pakistan Rangers post Dhandhar, which was reportedly providing cover fire. Visuals from Samba showed the aftermath, with the BSF confirming the operation’s success.

“BSF personnel spotted suspicious movement. This infiltration bid was supported by fire from the Pakistan Rangers post Dhandhar,” the spokesperson said. “Alert troops of the BSF immediately neutralised the infiltration bid and killed at least seven terrorists. They also caused extensive damage to the Pak post Dhandhar, including destruction of a bunker.”

The incident occurred amid rapidly escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan. Earlier on Thursday, India thwarted a Pakistani attempt to target multiple military installations in Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur with missiles and drones, signalling a potentially deadly surge in hostilities.

Pakistan’s attack followed India’s launch of Operation Sindoor strikes on terror facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) on 7 May 2025, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 100 militants. The strikes were a response to the Pahalgam terror assault, during which 26 people, predominantly tourists, were killed in a targeted religious massacre.

Operation Sindoor

In response to the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian Army launched Operation Sindoor, targeting nine sites in Pakistan and PoJK from which terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed.

In the early hours of 7 May 2025, the Ministry of Defence issued a statement:

“The Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed. Altogether, nine sites have been targeted.”

India’s focused strikes targeted terror hubs in Muridke, Kotli, Muzaffarabad and Bahawalpur, resulting in eight deaths and more than 35 injuries. Sialkot, Bahawalpur, Chak Amru and Muridke lie across the international border, while the remaining targets are located across the Line of Control in PoJK.
