Benchmark indices fell for the sixth straight session on Friday as heavy selling in pharma and IT stocks dragged markets lower after US President Donald Trump announced 100% tariffs on branded drugs from October 1.
The Sensex tumbled 733.22 points (0.90%) to a three-week low of 80,426.46, while the Nifty fell 236.15 points (0.95%) to 24,654.70. Together, the indices have lost over 3% in six sessions since September 19.
Pharma stocks were the worst hit, with Wockhardt plunging 9.4%, and heavy losses in Laurus Labs, Biocon, Zydus Life, Glenmark, Sun Pharma and Dr Reddy’s. The BSE Healthcare index fell 2.14%.
