Hindustan Zinc Sets 30% Women Workforce Target by 2030

Women's Day 2025: In a sector where women's representation remains limited, mining giant Hindustan Zinc has crossed the 25% mark in female workforce participation and further set a target of 30% by 2030. The company's gender diversity ratio has surpassed domestic industry benchmarks, positioning it ahead of several global and domestic peers in metals and mining.

The Vedanta-owned company announced the appointment of India's first woman underground mine manager and the formation of the country's first all-women underground mine rescue teams.

"Our vision is ambitious yet clear - to significantly accelerate this momentum and achieve 30% diversity within the next five years. The growing number of women choosing careers in mining and metallurgy is a testament to this shift - one fueled by our industry-first, people-centric policies and a wealth of opportunities designed for holistic professional growth," said Priya Agarwal Hebbar, chairperson of Hindustan Zinc.

Hindustan Zinc is the world's second-largest integrated zinc producer. The company also launched a program, Zinc Kaushal Kendra, helping over 500 women gain training in science-based skills like nursing and electrical work. The company is also supporting women-led micro-enterprises in rural Rajasthan, giving them a platform to sell their products online and grow their businesses.
