Tech Mahindra Eyes India’s GCC Boom to Drive Growth, Likely to Create 3,000 Jobs

Tech Mahindra is holding discussions to build a global capability centre (GCC) for the American-based company Goodyear Tire & Rubber as a part of its three-year Project Fortius. The centre will create nearly 3,000 jobs across various roles, including research and development (R&D), and IT operations of the American company, the Mint reported, citing sources. 

The move is part of the strategy that has been put in place by Tech Mahindra’s CEO Mohit Joshi to push for GCCs as a driver for revenue growth mainly focused on increasing operating margins. Last year in April, the company unveiled Project Fortius with a target to achieve a 15% operating margin. The company had announced earlier that in order to achieve the target it will focus more on organic growth than acquisitions. 

“We are particularly focused on improving our growth capabilities and our revenue mix in order to meet our growth aspirations by FY27, and we are making concerted efforts to improve our organisation and to drive productivity gains and price optimisation to achieve a 15% EBIT margin by FY27,” said CEO Mohit Joshi during a recent earnings call.

India’s GCC Boom Fueled by Government’s Push

Tech Mahindra isn’t the only IT company that is pushing for GCCs in the country to drive growth and employment. In January, Adecco India, a subsidiary of the global Fortune 500 company Adecco Group, announced its plan to expand GCCs in Bengaluru and add jobs to increase its workforce to over 2,500 by the year end. Another multinational company, TransUnion, announced setting up more GCCs in Pune to strengthen its international market strategy.

This comes at a time when the government is building infrastructure and formulating policies to attract investments to build GCCs in India. Recently, the finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her budget 2026 speech mentioned the government’s plan to formulate a national framework that will serve as a roadmap for states to promote GCCs particularly in tier 2 cities. Prior to this, Karnataka released its draft GCC policy with a target to establish 500 centres by 2029 and create 3.5 lakh jobs. Recently, in January this year, Madhya Pradesh became the first state to launch India’s first GCC policy to promote GCCs beyond metros.
