TCS Bags Additional Orders Worth Around Rs 3,000 Cr from BSNL for 4G Services-related Work

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) secured an add-on Advance Purchase Order (APO) worth Rs 2,903 crore from state-owned company BSNL for 4G mobile network-related work. The company, in a statement on May 21, said the add on- APO will comprise work related to planning, engineering, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and annual maintenance of BSNL’s 4G mobile network at 18,685 sites. The IT services giant mentioned that a detailed purchase order by BSNL will be released provided that the IT services giant meets certain requirements laid down by the government-run company. 

“We wish to inform you that the Company has, on May 20, 2025, received an add-on Advance Purchase Order (APO) for Rs 2,903.22 crore inclusive of taxes from BSNL,” said the company in an exchange filing.

Apart from this, TCS is also waiting for BSNL’s 4G network-currently being rolled out to 5G once the government-run telecom company identifies sites and frequency range. 

“When BSNL chooses the specific sites and bands where they want to offer 5G, we will carry out the upgrades,” TCS’s advisor for telecom strategic initiatives NG Subramaniam had told the Economic Times. 

Presently, a TCS-led consortium that comprises C-DoT and Tata Group telecom gear maker firm, Tejas Networks is implementing a pan-India 4G network for BSNL at over 100,000 sites.  

The Tata Group’s IT company had bagged a maintenance contract for as many as 100,000 sites for BSNL’s commercial 4G foray in June 2023. The tender allowed the state-run companies to place an additional order on the same tender for seamless 4G network services push. 

“The tender allows BSNL the option to place an additional order on the same tender, and we expect BSNL to exercise this provision to the extent of their requirements,” ET reported, citing a source. 

TCS reported a 1.7% decline in net profit to Rs 12,224 crore in the fourth quarter of the financial year 2025 from Rs 12,434 crore in the same quarter a year ago.
