Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran discussed the upcoming Jewar Airport with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in his recent meeting on May 21. The two held talks on ramping up the aviation sector in the state, including setting up maintenance, repair and overhauling (MRO) services for the Tata Group airline Air India. The aviation push comes at a time when the UP government is eyeing to create jobs in the state’s aviation services sector, the government said in a statement.

“The discussion also covered the Jewar Airport project, which is expected to bring transformative economic and commercial growth to Uttar Pradesh,” said the UP government in a statement on May 21. “Additionally, talks were held regarding the potential establishment of an MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhauling) facility for Air India, which would enhance the state’s aviation services sector and generate thousands of employment opportunities,” the government added.

Tata Group’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) arm, Tata Projects, is executing the international airport in UP’s Jewar.

Apart from the aviation sector, the two discussed industrial development, investment promotion and future business strategies for UP, with great emphasis on positioning the state as an ideal destination for domestic and international investors. Discussion around the progress of the proposed “Temple Architecture Museum” project in Ayodhya was also held.

Tata Sons’ ‘Museum of Temples’ Project

In June last year, the UP cabinet had approved Tata Sons’ proposal to build a ‘museum of temples’ in Ayodhya. The holding company of the Tata Group had said funds from its corporate social responsibility (CSR) fund would be used to finance the project that aims to boost tourism in UP. The cabinet gave a nod to sign a tripartite MoU involving the Union Ministry of Culture, the UP government and Tata Sons to build and run the temple museum. The project is reportedly set to cost around Rs 750 crore.
