Nvidia is in talks to invest in AI startup Perplexity as part of a new equity funding round that could value the company at more than $30 billion, according to a Reuters report citing The Information.
If completed, the funding round would increase Perplexity’s valuation by more than 50% from its previous financing round. The Information had reported in September 2025 that Perplexity had finalised a valuation of $20 billion.
The potential investment comes as Perplexity has seen a sharp rise in revenue. Its annualised revenue has climbed to more than $750 million, from less than $250 million at the beginning of the year, according to The Information, as cited by the news agency.
Part of the increase has been driven by Perplexity Computer, a cloud-based AI agent that helps professionals automate computer-based tasks, The Information reported.
The revenue growth highlights the rapid expansion of Perplexity’s business as AI companies compete to build products beyond traditional chatbot and search tools.
Perplexity has also been expanding its technology partnerships. Earlier this year, the company signed a $750 million agreement with Microsoft to use its Azure cloud service, according to a Bloomberg News report.
The startup has attracted several high-profile investors. Its backers include Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Japan’s SoftBank Group, along with Nvidia.
Perplexity is also preparing for a potential public listing. CEO Aravind Srinivas told CNBC in June that the company plans to go public in 2028, regardless of how the market responds to the IPOs of rival AI companies Anthropic and OpenAI.
The reported Nvidia investment would come as Perplexity continues to build its position in the fast-growing AI market. A valuation above $30 billion would mark a significant jump from the $20 billion valuation reported for its previous financing.
For now, however, the Nvidia investment remains under discussion and has not been completed. The potential funding round, if finalised at the reported valuation, would give Perplexity another major boost as it expands its AI search and agent businesses.
