Infosys has terminated 240 freshers after failing the company's internal assessment test. This is the second round of performance-based termination at the software giant this year after it terminated over 300 employees in February.

"You have not met the qualifying criteria in the 'Generic foundation training program' despite the additional preparation time, doubt-clearing sessions, several mock assessments and three attempts. As a result, you will not be able to continue your journey for the apprenticeship program," the termination e-mail read as assessed by the Times of India.

However, the company is facilitating the affected employees with free upskilling training in partnership with NIIT and UpGrad, including the ones fired in February. In an email, the company stated that the programs aim to help trainees "prepare for potential roles in the BPM industry" or continue "honing your IT skills."

“As you explore opportunities outside of Infosys, we have planned professional outplacement services to help you on that journey. We also wish to offer you another career pathway, by taking an Infosys sponsored external training to prepare for potential roles in the BPM industry. On successful completion of the training, you may also apply to available opportunities in Infosys BPM," the e-mail stated.

"However, if you wish to continue honing your IT skills, you also have an option to choose an Infosys sponsored external training program on Information Technology fundamentals to further support your IT career journey,” it added further.

The company also assured impacted trainees to provide one month’s salary, accommodation and a travel allowance from Infosys’ Mysore training facility to either Bengaluru or their hometowns. A total of 730 trainees appeared for the third and final assessment attempt on April 17, according to Moneycontrol. The next batch of employees attempting their final assessments are likely to receive their results next week.

Infosys Terminations

Infosys has terminated 45 trainees at one of its Bengaluru offices after they failed to clear internal assessments, even after three consecutive attempts. This follows the company’s earlier move in February, when it reportedly let go of around 350 employees.

Earlier, it also let go of 700 trainees who had been hired two-and-a-half years ago but were onboarded in October 2024. The company stated that these people failed to pass the company’s internal assessments but many affected trainees claimed that they were not informed about the negative marking in assessments.
