APSEZ Crosses 500 Million Tonnes Cargo Handling Milestone

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) on Wednesday said it has surpassed 500 million tonnes of cargo handled, marking a key milestone in its growth as India's largest integrated transport utility.

The achievement reflects the company's expansion from a single port in 1998 to a network of 19 ports and terminals, reinforcing its role in supporting India's trade and infrastructure development.

APSEZ Chairman Gautam Adani said the milestone underscores the group's long-term confidence in India’s growth story and its focus on building an integrated logistics platform spanning ports, rail, road and warehousing.

The company said it remains on track to achieve its target of handling 1 billion tonnes of cargo by 2030, backed by its expanding port network and logistics capabilities.

APSEZ in a statement said, "it has surpassed the landmark milestone of 500 million tonnes of cargo handled. APSEZ crossing 500 million tonnes is a signal of the group's decades-long confidence in the India growth story, he said. "Over the years, we have built not just ports, but an unparalleled interconnected transport and logistics platform spanning ports, rail, roads, trucking, warehouses, and cargo gateways." While APSEZ took 16 years to reach its first 100 million tonnes, each subsequent 100 million tonnes has been added faster than the last, reflecting the increasing scale, efficiency, resilience and strategic depth of its platform.

"With this milestone, APSEZ remains firmly on course toward its next major ambition of handling 1 billion tonnes of cargo by 2030. As it enters this next phase, the company remains committed to building not only world-class infrastructure, but also a world-class institution defined by scale, service, operational excellence and national purpose," the statement said.

The company operates a comprehensive ecosystem of 15 strategically located ports and terminals across India's west, south, and east coasts, combined with a diversified marine fleet of 127 vessels, integrated logistics capabilities including 12 multi-modal logistics parks, 3.1 million sq ft of warehouses, and 25,000+ trucks operating on its proprietary platform, thus providing capabilities to handle vast amounts of cargo from both coastal areas and the hinterland.

With a current cargo handling capacity of 633 million tonnes per annum, APSEZ commands about 28% of India's total port volumes, targeting 1 billion tonnes throughput by 2030.
