The Adani Group has announced to invest Rs 7.5 lakh crores across various projects in different sectors ranging from upgrading the airport in Jaipur to accelerate the green energy expansion in Rajasthan. Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone made the announcement while addressing the inaugural session at the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit 2024 in Jaipur on Monday.
“The Adani Group plans to invest over Rs 7.5 lakh crores across various sectors of the state economy. With over 60 per cent of this investment being over the next five years,” said Karan Adani.
The investments will pan across different sectors with special focus on a100 GW integrated green energy ecosystem, cement production, building a world class airport in Jaipur, multimodal logistics park and many more.
“We plan to build the world's biggest integrated green energy ecosystem involving 100 gigawatts of renewable energy. Two million tons of hydrogen and 1.8 gigawatts of pump hydro storage. These investments will turn Rajasthan into an oasis of green jobs,” added Adani. The group also aims to set up four new cement plants to build an additional capacity of six million tons per annum in the state.
During the Rising Rajasthan Summit 2022, Gautam Adani, the founder and chairman of the Adani Group had previously announced a Rs 65,000-crore investment in Rajasthan over the next five to seven years to set up a mega 10,000 MW solar power capacity, expand cement plant and upgrade Jaipur airport. Some of their other major areas of focus of investments included city gas infrastructure for retailing CNG to automobiles and piped gas to households and industries as well as laying transmission lines to carry renewable power.
However, Adani Group’s announcement of investments in 2022 in Rajasthan sparked several controversies as critics insinuated that the then Congress chief minister Ashok Gehlot was trying to befriend the Adani Group. This move appeared as a sharp contrast to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slamming Gautam Adani for their business practices.
