India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror camps in Pakistan and PoK in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. As a result, multiple Indian states have gone on high alert and initiated emergency measures.
Punjab announced a high alert in five border districts including Ferozepur, Fazilka, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Amritsar. All government and private schools in these regions have been shut down as a safety precaution amid rising security concerns.
Rajasthan followed suit with airport closures and school shutdowns in key districts. Jodhpur and Bikaner airports were temporarily shut while schools in Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner and Ganganagar remained closed to avoid any public risk.
Uttar Pradesh declared a red alert statewide. The police department directed all units to stay in coordination with central forces and defense officials while boosting surveillance around critical areas and installations.
Security was stepped up in Delhi after the operation. Police presence was increased at key location and a mock drill was planned for 4 PM to check how ready different departments are for emergencies.
Multiple northern airports including Leh, Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Jodhpur and Dharamshala faced flight cancellations and diversions. Airlines like IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet suspended several services as a precaution.
The Indian strikes targeted Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed camps based in Muridke and Bahawalpur. These groups were suspected to be behind the Pahalgam killings.
