Sportswear giant, Nike has introduced Project Amplify, a futuristic powered shoe designed to help runners move faster and longer with less strain. The prototype combines robotics and footwear technology to boost performance effortlessly.
The concept blends mechanical power with human movement. A battery-powered motor attached near the ankle lifts the heel at each step, syncing with the runner’s motion to provide extra spring and speed with every stride.
The Amplify system comes with a flexible cuff fitted with batteries, a powered arm, and a heel-mounted motor. These parts work in sync to provide a smooth lift, improving stamina while keeping the runner’s motion natural.
Instead of focusing on professionals, Nike has built Amplify for regular runners who pace around 10 to 12 minutes per mile. The powered assist is meant to improve endurance and comfort, helping them run longer with ease.
The shoe itself includes a carbon plate and sleek Nike design. It can also be detached from the motor, letting users wear it as a regular running shoe whenever the batteries need recharging.
Nike has also teamed up with Massachusetts based robotics firm Dephy, as per a Wired report. Two companies are testing Project Amplify in outdoor environments and at Nike’s advanced innovation lab in Beaverton, Oregon.
Alongside Project Amplify, Nike has also unveiled Mind, its first footwear line developed using neuroscience research. Each sole has 22 foam nubs that mimic barefoot movement, helping wearers feel more grounded and balanced while improving mental focus.
Nike has also revealed Aero-Fit, its first performance wear crafted fully from chemically recycled textile waste. The breathable, sweat-wicking line will debut with soccer jerseys in 2026, highlighting Nike’s push towards sustainable innovation.
