IndiGo will launch direct flights to 10 new international cities by the end of the year. Commenting on the development, IndiGo's CEO Pieter Elbers on Friday said the move is part of the airline’s ongoing efforts to enhance global connectivity and cater to increasing demand, the Business Standard reported.
IndiGo will directly fly to London, Amsterdam, Manchester, Copenhagen, Athens and Siem Reap. The new routes will boost India’s direct air connectivity to major global business and tourist destinations.
Presently, IndiGo serves 40 international destinations. By the end of FY26, IndiGo aims to reach 50 global cities through its expanding network and strategic aircraft deployment.
The expansion will be supported by leased Boeing 787s and Airbus A321XLRs. These long-range aircraft will enable non-stop services on newly introduced international routes.
The Airbus A321XLR will enter global service in the second half of FY26. IndiGo expects to add these aircraft to its fleet during the same period.
While Indian airlines hold about 45% share in international traffic, Elbers noted their presence in Europe is weaker, with just 30% share compared to European carriers.
IndiGo CEO ruled out joining global airline alliances like Star Alliance, SkyTeam or oneworld. IndiGo currently prefers forming bilateral codeshare partnerships for international connectivity.
IndiGo won’t advance the delivery of Airbus A350s, which were ordered last year. These wide-body aircraft are scheduled to join the fleet from 2027 onwards.
Elbers explained that wide-body production follows a tight schedule. Unlike narrow-body jets, the A350 deliveries cannot be fast-tracked due to fixed manufacturing timelines.
