Food and grocery delivery firm Swiggy has introduced artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot integration in India, allowing users to order food, groceries and make dining reservations directly through platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude.
Swiggy relies on Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open-source system that allows artificial intelligence tools to connect with its data and services, enabling tasks to be completed without moving across multiple app screens.
Model Context Protocol (MCP) acts as a universal connector, creating a standard way for artificial intelligence agents to work with application programming interfaces, cutting custom integrations and enabling direct execution of user-driven tasks.
According to Swiggy, the artificial intelligence integration lets agents complete tasks that previously needed several taps, searches and comparisons, making the ordering process faster and more straightforward for users.
Users can place orders through simple, everyday prompts, such as asking for recipe ingredients or top-rated dishes, removing the need to manually search through restaurants or product listings.
The artificial intelligence agent handles the full process, from searching and comparing options to adding items, applying offers, confirming addresses, placing orders and tracking delivery, all from one prompt.
Users can link Swiggy by opening their artificial intelligence chatbot settings, selecting the option to add a custom connector, and pasting the appropriate Swiggy service URL for Instamart, food delivery or Dineout.
At present, ChatGPT allows connections to Model Context Protocol services, while Gemini and other artificial intelligence chatbots may not yet support third-party integrations.
