Big Idea

Bulk-buying simplified

Sahil Sani is making life easy for the average grocer

According to Sahil Sani, Co-founder, Just Buy Live, a kirana shop owner has to deal with about 30-40 suppliers daily to maintain his inventory. The utter confusion and time exhaustion faced by them led to the thought of starting Just Buy Live – an online B2B platform aimed at simplifying the supply chain. “The retailer has to just browse the brand on our application and click on the items he wants. There is absolutely no human interaction which saves time and gets things done quicker,” says Sani.

Just Buy Live picks up stuff from third party warehouses and delivers through logistics partners such as Delhivery, Gojavas, Fedex etc. With about 1,200 suppliers on board including big ones like ITC, Dabur, Pepsico and Coca-Cola, and about 800 local brands such as Karachi Bakery, Sonal Foods etc, the application can be accessed only by a registered business.

The start-up gets a margin from the brands that ranges anywhere between 5-25%and provides the application to the retailers free of cost. Unwilling to reveal the percentage paid to the logistics companies, Sani says distributing products directly from the warehouse to the retailers cuts down cost hugely.

With about 300 people on board, Just Buy Live, which is headquartered in Thane, Mumbai, is present across 13 states including Punjab, NCR, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Karnataka etc. “We also provide inter-state logistics which is one thing that sets us apart. It’s tough to manage but we are constantly working on it to make it simpler and faster,” he adds.

The start-up which bootstrapped with ₹30 crore raised $20 million in December 2015 from Alpha Capital. The funds will be used to expand and get more retailers on board.
