PM Modi Calls For Developing Open-Source AI To Enhance Trust And Transparency

Speaking at the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit in Paris, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the need for AI models to be built on an open-source framework, ensuring accessibility for all and fostering public trust.

“We must build a quality data set free from biases. We must address the concerns related to cybersecurity, disinformation and deep fakes,” he said in Paris on February 11.

The PM also mentioned , “The training data shows that while the positive potential is absolutely amazing, there are many biases we need to think carefully about.”

He added, “AI is writing code for humanity in this century and reshaping our polity, economy, security and even our society.” 

The Prime Minister also urged for global efforts to establish governance and standards that upload values in AI functioning. He touched upon the significance of governance and said, “Governance is also about innovation and deploying it for the global good.” 

The Indian Prime Minister also highlighted the challenges faced by the Global South, stating, “Governance must ensure equitable access for all, especially in the Global South, where capabilities in computing power, data, and financial resources remain limited.”

On the sidelines of his address, Prime Minister Modi commended India's efforts in this area, stating, “India has successfully developed Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for over 1.4 billion people at a remarkably low cost, built on an open and accessible network.”

In terms of IndiaAI mission, Modi informed that India is building Large Language Models (LLMs) considering our diversity and also pushing public private partnership to pool resources and talent. In concluding, Modi highlighted that India is ready to share its experience and expertise to ensure AI future for good and all.
