As per CNBC Awaaz, Starlink is expected to charge Indian users around ₹3,000 per month for unlimited data. However, users will first need to purchase a receiver kit priced at approximately ₹33,000 to access its satellite internet services.

Earlier, NDTV Profit reported that Starlink plans to offer between 600 and 700 gigabits per second (Gbps) of bandwidth initially, which will support only 30,000 to 50,000 users at a time. A government official told the broadcaster that Starlink aims to scale this up to 3 terabits per second (Tbps) by 2027.

Starlink Eyes Direct-to-Consumer Launch in India

Starlink is preparing to roll out a direct-to-consumer (DTC) internet model in India, allowing users to bypass traditional telecom providers such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and Reliance Jio. The service is expected to target premium users, with ground equipment priced between $250 and $600 (₹20,000–₹50,000).

While these prices align with international markets, the company is expected to consider India’s price-sensitive nature and low data tariffs. Meanwhile, Starlink has already signed business-to-business (B2B) agreements with Airtel and Jio to offer satellite internet services as resellers.

Globally, Starlink offers multiple consumer plans. In the US, the Residential Lite plan costs $80 per month, while the standard Residential plan is $120 per month, with a one-time hardware fee of around $349. Mobile users can choose from Roam plans — $50 per month for 50 GB or $165 per month for unlimited data. In Europe, similar plans range from €40 to €65 per month, depending on the country. In parts of Asia, including Japan, Malaysia, and Bangladesh, Residential Lite plans cost around ₹2,600–₹3,000, with standard plans ranging from ₹4,000–₹6,000.

Starlink Moves Closer to Launch in India

Although Starlink has received a Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) licence from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), it still awaits final clearance from India's space regulator, In-SPACe. The company has reportedly submitted all required security documents and agreed to the new licence conditions. Once approved, it is expected to receive provisional spectrum allocation, paving the way for its official launch.

To support its Indian operations, Starlink plans to set up three ground gateways across the country, compared to two each operated by rivals Eutelsat-OneWeb and Jio-SES. The company has been pursuing a licence in India for more than three years, highlighting its long-term interest in building out a satellite internet infrastructure in the country.
