Apple Inc plans to implement artificial-intelligence technologies to tackle a frequent source of customer frustration: the iPhone’s battery life, Bloomberg reported.

According to the report, Apple is exploring an AI-powered battery-management feature for iOS 19, an iPhone software update slated for release in September. The update will analyse how individuals use their devices and make adjustments to conserve energy, sources said, requesting anonymity as the feature has not yet been announced.

The new feature would leverage on-device artificial intelligence to assess individual usage patterns and optimise charging and power consumption accordingly. This could result in fewer unexpected battery drains throughout the day as the iPhone makes smarter decisions about throttling background processes, adjusting performance or deferring tasks until the device is charging.

iOS 19 is expected to be available in September.

While Apple already offers battery-health features such as Optimised Battery Charging and the Battery Health menu, this new system appears more dynamic and personalised. Rather than relying on generic settings, the iPhone could learn from individual usage patterns and adapt in real time to extend battery life while preserving performance.

This development aligns with Apple’s strategy of integrating AI into its core functionalities. The initial release of Apple Intelligence last year introduced features such as text editing and writing refinement across input fields, notification summarisation, custom-emoji creation, removal of unwanted elements from photos and sketch generation.

Apple–Anthropic Vibe-Coding Platform

Apple Inc is collaborating with Anthropic PBC to develop a new vibe-coding software platform that uses artificial intelligence to write, edit and test code for programmers, Bloomberg reported.

The platform is an enhanced version of Xcode, Apple’s programming environment, integrating Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet model. Apple intends to deploy the software internally and has not yet decided on a public release.

Vibe coding employs large-language models (LLMs) to generate code from natural-language descriptions, bypassing traditional manual coding.

This initiative reflects Apple’s efforts to leverage AI to streamline internal workflows, aiming to accelerate and modernise product development. The approach is similar to that of companies such as Windsurf and Anysphere, the creator of Cursor, which provide advanced AI-coding assistants popular among developers.
