Technical Snags, Bomb Threat Disrupt Flights Days After Ahmedabad Tragedy

The Ahmedabad Air India plane crash that killed over 270 people, has sparked safety concerns. It has prompted aviation authorities to investigate the lapses, maintain records, and crew actions leading up to the incident. Since then, several flights have even been diverted, either due to technical snags or bomb threat calls.

The latest case, again involving an Air India flight en route from Hong Kong to Delhi, yet adds another layer of concern to an already tensed airspace. Flight AI315, operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was forced to return to its origin on Monday after the pilot witnessed a suspected technical issue mid-air.

Prior to this, a Lufthansa flight en route to Hyderabad was forced to turn back to Frankfurt after a bomb threat led to the denial of landing clearance. Flight LH752 had taken off from Frankfurt and was expected to land at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Monday. However, the flight turned back mid-route as a precautionary measure.

On Sunday, a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight carrying nearly 250 passengers, including Hajj pilgrims, made an emergency landing in Lucknow after the plane developed a technical issue mid-air. Upon touchdown, smoke was spotted coming from the aircraft’s left wheel. The Airbus A330-343 had departed from Jeddah at 10.45 pm and arrived in Lucknow around 6.50 am.

Ahmedabad Air India Crash

On June 12, tragedy struck when Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner en route from Ahmedabad to London, crashed moments after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

All 241 passengers and crew members lost their lives, marking one of the most devastating air disasters in India's aviation history and prompting a massive emergency response.

Public anger is mounting against Air India following the tragic crash of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Ahmedabad. Families and citizens have voiced sharp criticism over alleged shortcomings in the airline’s maintenance standards and pilot training. They demanded a complete revamp of safety practices and stronger accountability from top leadership.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a formal directive mandating enhanced safety inspections on Air India’s fleet of Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft. 

The government has set up a high-level investigation committee that includes senior officials from the DGCA, AAIB, and independent aviation experts. The panel will probe potential technical faults, review maintenance logs, and examine the crew’s actions prior to the fatal crash.
