India Bans All Imports from Pakistan With Immediate Effect after Pahlgam Attack

India has announced a complete ban on imports from Pakistan. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, issued a notification today prohibiting the import of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan to India.

"Direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, whether or not freely importable or otherwise permitted, shall be prohibited with immediate effect, until further orders. This restriction is imposed in the interest of national security and public policy," the official statement read.

The ban, effective immediately, also extends to any goods entering India via third-party trade routes. This marks a severe escalation in the ongoing trade and diplomatic tensions between the two neighboring nations.

While the specific reasons for the ban were not officially detailed, the decision is widely seen as a response to the ongoing geopolitical issues between India and Pakistan.

The notification from the DGFT highlights that all goods originating from Pakistan, regardless of whether they are shipped directly or through a third nation, will be prohibited from entering India. This could disrupt a variety of industries that rely on Pakistani imports, including the agricultural sector.

Recent media reports suggested that the closure of the Attari-Wagah border after the Pahlgam attack is expected to reduce imports of Afghan nuts, dried fruits, and spices over the coming months, with importers forecasting a price surge of 15-20%.

Along side, the government has also banned all ships bearing the flag of Pakistan from entering any Indian port as a response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.

Right after the notification by DGFT, the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways also said an Indian ship will also not visit any Pakistani port.

“A ship bearing the flag of Pakistan shall not be allowed to visit any Indian Port,” said the order.
