GHCL Ltd has asked the government to impose anti-dumping duties on soda ash imports from China and other exporters, citing heavy inflows hurting margins.
Import share in India has risen to 25–26% from a historical 15%, pressuring local synthetic soda ash producers.
China dominates global supply with 45% capacity and has added over 10 million tonnes in Inner Mongolia, creating a surplus.
India extended the minimum import price (MIP) till December 31, but GHCL said it offers limited relief; anti-dumping duty is seen as the next step.
