Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) gave a clean chit to Air India’s Boeing 787 fleet. The regulator on Tuesday said surveillance conducted on Tata Group’s airline Boeing 787 fleet did not find any major safety concerns. While raising concerns regarding maintenance issues that recently surfaced with Air India, DGCA has advised the Tata Group airline to tighten safety and security across various segments.

“The recent surveillance conducted on Air India’s Boeing 787 fleet did not reveal any major safety concerns,” said DGCA in a statement on June 17. “The airline was advised to strengthen internal coordination across engineering, operations, ground handling units and ensure availability of adequate spares to mitigate passenger delays resulting from such issues and strictly adhere to regulations,” the regulator added.
In a high-level meeting held on Tuesday, the regulator and senior officials of the airline discussed the impact of recent airspace closures, including flight diversions, delays and cancellations. DGCA has asked the airline to timely convey information to passengers and crew. It has also suggested the airline to explore alternate routes to minimize disruptions.
The regulator began its check on Air India’s Boeing 787 fleet after the Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12, which resulted in over 250 deaths. Following the incident, the Tata Group airline has come under intense national and international scrutiny with multiple ongoing probes. The civil aviation ministry has set up a high-level committee to investigate the tragic Air India Ahmedabad plane crash. Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu has set out a three-month deadline for the committee headed by the home secretary to submit a detailed investigation report.

“A high-level multi-disciplinary committee is constituted to examine the causes leading to the crash,” said the Ministry of Civil Aviation in a statement.
Besides this, the DGCA and Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) are also investigating the plane crash.
