Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims former President Donald Trump appears in the Jeffrey Epstein files citing it as the reason for withholding their release escalating tensions over document transparency
Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Thursday claimed that former US President Donald Trump is named in the controversial Jeffrey Epstein files.
He claimed it to be the primary reason behind the government’s reluctance to fully release the documents. Musk made the allegation in an X post, writing, “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”
He followed up with another message, stating, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
Neither President Trump nor the White House has issued a formal response to Elon Musk’s startling allegations regarding Trump’s involvement in the Epstein files. As their public dispute intensifies, the debate over the full release of Epstein-related documents remains contentious, with ongoing questions about the roles of prominent figures.
The statement came as tensions between Musk and Trump intensified, following Musk’s criticism of Trump’s proposed legislative proposal, “One Big Beautiful Bill.” The bill aims to extend tax cuts and increase federal spending on immigration enforcement and other programmes.
Musk labelled the bill a “disgusting abomination,” alleging it eliminated electric-vehicle incentives, which Trump later confirmed.
Responding on Truth Social, Trump lashed out at Musk, claiming, “Elon was wearing thin, I asked him to leave, I took away his EV mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted… and he just went CRAZY!” The former president also threatened to strip Musk’s companies of government subsidies and contracts, framing it as a potential avenue for budget cuts.
Musk retaliated by announcing that SpaceX would begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft in response to Trump’s threats. He further asserted that without his backing, Trump would have lost the election and that Democrats would currently control Congress.
The Epstein files refer to government documents connected to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender who died in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges. Materials declassified earlier this year under the Trump administration included flight logs from Epstein’s private plane and other records. However, these documents did not publicly name Trump.
Although Trump and Epstein were known to have socialised during the 1980s and 1990s, including being photographed together at a 1997 event at Mar-a-Lago, no public evidence has linked Trump to Epstein’s crimes. Epstein’s extensive network of high-profile acquaintances has long fuelled public interest and speculation surrounding the full contents of the sealed records.
