Last weekend, Taj Lands End in Mumbai was the venue of the most talked-about wedding of the year: that of Abhinav Jhunjhunwala, the son of Anil Ambani’s Man Friday, Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, with Prerna, daughter of Kolkata-based business baron, Ghanshyam Sarda. The glitzy event, complete with diamond-laden guests, was a conspicuous display of the Reliance Group’s strong connections with stock market investors, operators, investment bankers, the media and also filmstars. Prominent guests were Rakesh Jhunjhunwala (who, incidentally, is Amitabh’s cousin); Ketan Parekh (infamous stock market operator seen in the accompanying photo); First Global’s Shankar Sharma; the reclusive Radhakishan Damani and Enam co-founder Nemish Shah; outgoing UBS India chairperson Manisha Girotra; JP Morgan chief executive officer Kalpana Morparia; ICICI Ventures’ Vishakha Mulye; Standard & Poors’ south Asia head Rupa Kudva; and home minister P Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram. As much a wedding then, as a stock market reunion.
