Apple shipped iPhones valued at ₹1.5 trillion (free on board) from India in FY25, a 76 % increase from the previous year.

Analysts estimate that local value addition in China, where most Apple products, particularly iPhones are assembled, ranges from 30 %–35 %. In Vietnam, another key manufacturing hub for Apple products such as the iPad, AirPods and watches, value addition is estimated at 20 %–25 %.

Apple CEO Tim Cook stated on a recent earnings call that the majority of iPhones sold in the US in the June quarter would be manufactured in India, prompting US President Donald Trump to declare that only locally manufactured Apple gadgets could be sold in the US.

No official DVA figures are available for these countries. According to records, Samsung India and Padget Electronics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dixon, have both surpassed the 20 % DVA mark for mobile phones manufactured in India.

Tata Electronics, Wistron, Pegatron and Foxconn primarily assemble iPhones in India and conduct component testing there. The government allows mobile‑phone contract manufacturers to classify domestic assembly and testing of imported battery packs, chargers, adapters and other components as DVA.

Consequently, all these companies have been designated as Class II local suppliers under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade’s (DPIIT) Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India) Order, 2017. The DPIIT’s PPP‑MII Order is an enabling provision designed to promote DVA in public procurement.
