OpenAI's ChatGPT faced a massive global outage on Tuesday as user reports indicated problems in using the software. Over 800 cases of outages were reported in India around 3 pm, according to Down Detector. The reason for the outage is not known yet.
Meanwhile, the number of cases reported by users in the United Kingdom and the United States reached up to 1000. The outages started around 12:30 pm IST and surged over the next three hours. While using ChatGPT, users reported getting a message which said, “A network error occurred. Please check your connection and try again. If this issue persists, please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.”
Meanwhile, social media platforms are also flooded with #ChatGPTDown posts and memes. "ChatGPT is down and I’m mid-flight piloting a plane with no idea how to land it. If you see a plane going down, send help," wrote an user on X.
OpenAI's Status page has acknowledged the ongoing outage. It confirmed that the company is currently experiencing issues with multiple services, including ChatGPT, its APIs and Sora. "Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services (APIs, ChatGPT, and Sora). We are continuing to investigate this issue," stated the company. However, they have not mentioned any timeline for the resolution of the issue.
