Tata Motor's Electric Vehicle Arm Ties Up With JLR For Avinya Range

Tata Motors announced on Thursday that its electric vehicle subsidiary has entered into a licencing agreement with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) to acquire electrified architecture for the development of the 'Avinya' range of cars.

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM) and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), both wholly-owned subsidiaries of Tata Motors, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), according to Tata Motors.

The agreement involves TPEM licencing JLR's electrified modular architecture (EMA) platform for a royalty fee to support the development of the Avinya series.

Additionally, TPEM and JLR will engage in an engineering services agreement (ESA) to meet TPEM's content requirements for the first vehicle in the series.

JLR's EMA platform will serve as the foundation for Tata Motors' next generation of electric mid-sized SUVs, set to be launched internationally from 2025 onwards. The platform is designed for native Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) dimensions, optimising interior space, comfort, and vision, and offering advanced electrical and electronic architecture, connectivity, software, and over-the-air capability.

The 'Avinya' concept was initially unveiled in 2022, and this partnership with JLR on the EMA platform is expected to make the Avinya series globally competitive and future-proof.

Tata Motors stated that the architecture is equipped with cutting-edge technology, software, and artificial intelligence, and the Avinya range will produce a new generation of high-quality EVs with global standards in efficiency and range, as noted by TPEM Chief Product Officer Anand Kulkarni.

Thomas Mueller, JLR's Executive Director of Product Engineering, emphasised that this partnership is another instance of strong collaboration within the Tata Group, aimed at sharing value and knowledge and delivering synergies. As part of this transfer of knowledge, skills, and manufacturing processes, Tata Motors expects to create over 200 new jobs in the UK.
