“We act prudently and responsibly for the benefit of society and the environment.” This claim anchors the values of sustainability and responsibility in Bosch’s mission statement. Especially in times of fundamental change, it is important to take responsibility for people, the environment, and society.  Towards this Bosch has also committed to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which extend into 2030 and are intended to promote sustainable development worldwide. The company support these goals with its products and services by offering solutions to social challenges and finding answers to environmental and social questions.

Keeping with its commitment towards the environment, economic, and social dimensions, Bosch has taken steps to translate the wide range of sustainability requirements from its global operations by analysing and setting targets and developing forward-looking approaches for the entire value chain.

Bosch pursues sustainability at all stages of the product life cycle. Starting with purchasing, it works together closely with suppliers and has defined clear requirements. These cover climate and environmental protection, resource conservation, fair working conditions and competitive practices, and respecting human rights.

On the basis of life cycle analyses, the company endeavours to make its products eco-friendly. At the same time, it seeks to reduce its consumption of energy and resources and has, for that purpose, established environmental management systems at its locations. To continuously improve occupational health and safety and the working conditions of associates at production facilities as well as in our administrative functions worldwide, Bosch maintains extensive occupational health and safety management.

With the primary intent to move to a way of living and doing business that conserves resources and has a positive impact on society, Bosch sees providing the highest quality and safe products as its strength and commitment towards maintaining a sustainable balance.  Getting involved through a wide range of activities through public-benefit institutions in India, Brazil, China, Mexico, and the United States, the company seeks to reduce poverty and give people access to education in the respective communities. Further, Bosch donates over 20 million euros to charitable causes around the world.

Bosch reached a milestone towards greater sustainability in late 2020 when all its production, development and administrative sites worldwide became carbon dioxide neutral. This was achieved primarily through energy efficiency measures on buildings and factories, by expanding the use of regenerative energy, and purchasing green electricity. By 2030, Bosch will increase the proportion of self-generated green energy fivefold from the current 10 GWh.

The Bosch Board, as early as June 2012, in a report highlighted its commitments to energy efficiency and climate change. It states that the Bosch manufacturers understand sustainability centers on a very comprehensive notion of product responsibility and the tireless pursuit of better ways to use Bosch’s products, value creation processes, expertise, and engagement to achieve sustainable development objectives worldwide.
