The drive will commence in July, aligning with the arrival of the monsoon season, an official statement of NDMC said.

The civic body has earmarked prominent roads, parks, and green spaces for this year's plantation drive which includes Akbar Road, Shankar Road, Sardar Patel Marg, and major landmarks like Nehru Park, Lodhi Garden, and Sanjay Jheel, it added.

The council has selected ten species of trees such as Imli, Jamun, and Neem, as well as 10 varieties of ornamental and native shrubs to enhance the city's greenery.

Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal highlighted the success of last year's "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign, where over 11,000 trees and more than 13 lakh shrubs were planted.

He urged all NDMC employees to participate in the upcoming drive by planting trees in honour of their mothers, aligning with the spirit of this year's initiative.

Currently, NDMC maintains 1,450 acres of green spaces within its jurisdiction, contributing a significant 64.5 per cent to Delhi's total green cover.
