Delhi Braces for Heatwave as IMD Sounds Yellow Alert from April 24: Here’s How to Stay Cool

Heatwave conditions are likely to grip  Delhi from April 24 to April 26, with temperatures predicted between 41 and 43 degrees Celsius, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD). The met department has issued a yellow alert for the national capital for a heatwave for three days.

The temperatures had dipped slightly on April 22 but it is expected to soar from April 23. The maximum temperature on April 22 was recorded as 39.9 degrees Celsius and on April 21, it stood at 41.3 degrees Celsius, making it season’s hottest day.

The minimum temperature was 20.9 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal, reported TOI. Moreover, the IMD has forecast clear skies for April 23, with winds likely to blow at speeds 10-20 km/h. Humidity levels on April 22 ranged from 13% to 51%.

Forecast and Safety Tips

The maximum temperature is expected to be around 40-42 degrees Celsius on April 23. The maximum temperatures are likely to rise over Delhi by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the next five days, reported TOI.

Temperatures are likely to remain 41 to 43 degrees Celsius during April 24-26. It will be above normal by 2-4 degrees Celsius over different parts of Delhi.

Advising people to take precautions to safeguard against heatwave conditions, IMD suggested that people should avoid exposure to heat, wear lightweight, light-coloured and loose cotton clothes, cover head and use a cloth, hat or umbrella.

The met department also mentioned, “moderate health concern is likely for vulnerable people, including infants and elderly people with chronic diseases”.
