India Launches Diplomatic Blitz Post Strikes, Receives Positive Response from Overseas

India’s diplomatic efforts intensify following Operation Sindoor, as Jaishankar and Doval engage with world leaders on cross-border terrorism

Following the launch of Operation Sindoor in the early hours of Wednesday deep inside Pakistani soil, India swiftly engaged in behind-the-scenes diplomacy. Top Indian officials, including the National Security Adviser (NSA), reached out to the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council—China, France, Russia, the UK and the US—as well as key strategic partners such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Japan.

NSA Ajit Doval spoke to his counterparts from many countries, including Pakistan, after the operation. He reached out to US secretary of state Marco Rubio, who is officiating as the country's NSA, Russia's Sergei Shoigu, France's Emmanuel Bonne, the UK's Jonathan Powell, Saudi Arabia's Musaid Al Aiban, Japan's Masataka Okano and the UAE's Sheikh Tahnoon, The Economic Times reported citing people with knowledge of the matter. He also spoke to China's foreign minister Wang Yi.

The report said that Doval briefed key international partners on India's actions under Operation Sindoor, emphasising that the strikes were carefully calibrated, limited in scope and aimed solely at terror targets. According to the report, Doval stressed that the mission was not intended to provoke escalation but was well prepared to respond should Pakistan decide to escalate. The feedback from global counterparts was broadly supportive, as per the report. Doval is expected to continue these diplomatic engagements in the coming days as the situation develops.

On the other hand, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar informed TRT World in an interview that Doval also spoke to his Pakistani counterpart.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also engaged with his counterparts of several countries to brief India's measured attack on cross-border terrorism. They include France, Germany, Japan, Qatar and Spain. Jaishankar informed that Germany and France have shown their solidarity and support to India in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Meanwhile, Japan also firmly condemned the attack.

The Indian mission at the UN reached out to Security Committee members and briefed them on the operation and received a positive response to the country's approach, ET said.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Dr Abbas Araghchi arrived in India for a two-day official visit to co-chair the 20th Joint Commission Meeting between the two countries. He is the first foreign minister to visit New Delhi post-strikes.
