YouTube has raised the price of its Premium subscription, marking a new adjustment as streaming platforms continue a wider trend of increasing subscription costs.
YouTube Premium’s US subscription has risen to $13.99 per month for individual users, marking a $2 hike, while the family plan now costs $22.99 monthly after a $5 increase, based on recent updates.
The updated YouTube Premium pricing applies to both new and existing users, showing a wide rollout of the revised rates. This signals a broader change in YouTube’s subscription strategy across its expanding global digital services ecosystem.
The price hike reflects YouTube’s effort to manage rising content costs and ongoing feature development while strengthening subscription revenue as a key business stream beyond advertising, as per reports, amid changing global market dynamics.
However, the company has dismissed reports claiming it plans to introduce 90-second unskippable ads for TV viewers, clarifying that no such changes are currently being implemented on the platform at this stage.
Meanwhile, YouTube is expanding its Premium Lite plan in select markets, offering a more affordable option that removes ads from most videos. However, it excludes features like background playback and access to YouTube Music, with the rollout continuing across regions.
YouTube Premium pricing varies widely across regions, with lower-cost markets such as India still offering more affordable plans. However, previous revisions in 2024 increased prices across multiple subscription tiers in several regions globally.
The latest adjustment aligns with a broader industry trend, as streaming platforms including Netflix and Disney+ have also raised subscription prices, often citing higher production costs and investment in original content globally.
