Who is Vikram Misri?

Vikram Misri is a 1989-batch Indian Foreign Service officer. He currently serves as the 35th Foreign Secretary of India, heading the country’s diplomatic and foreign policy operations.

Early Life, Education

Born in Srinagar in 1964, Vikram Misri pursued his early education at Burn Hall School and Carmel Convent in Jammu and Kashmir. He later attended The Scindia School in Gwalior, earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from Hindu College, University of Delhi and completed an MBA from XLRI, Jamshedpur.

Entry into Diplomacy

After a brief stint in advertising, Misri joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1989. He served in various capacities in Indian missions abroad, including Brussels and Tunis and held significant roles in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Roles with Prime Ministers

Misri served as the Private Secretary to three Indian Prime Ministers: Inder Kumar Gujral, Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi. His close work with top leadership provided him with deep insights into India’s foreign policy and administrative functions.
