Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, a decorated helicopter pilot in the Indian Air Force, gained prominence during the Operation Sindoor media briefing. Alongside Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, she outlined India’s precision strikes following the Pahalgam terror attack, showcasing her leadership and communication skills.
From a young age, Vyomika dreamed of flying. She joined the NCC in school, studied engineering and became the first in her family to join the armed forces. Her hard work earned her a permanent commission in the IAF on December 18, 2019.
With over 2,500 flying hours, Wing Commander Singh has piloted Chetak and Cheetah helicopters across challenging terrains, including high-altitude regions in Jammu and Kashmir and remote areas in the Northeast. Notably, in 2020.
During the Operation Sindoor briefing, Wing Commander Singh provided detailed insights into the mission’s objectives and execution. She emphasized the precision of the strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure and reiterated India’s commitment to avoiding civilian casualties.
Wing Commander Singh led a critical rescue operation in Arunachal Pradesh in November 2020, evacuating civilians under extreme conditions.
She also participated in a tri-services all-women mountaineering expedition to Mt. Manirang, standing at 21,650 feet in 2021.
Vyomika’s role in Operation Sindoor showed how women are now leading from the front in defence. It was a strong break from old norms in military briefings.
