iPhone maker Apple is facing a difficult leadership moment as Hardware Technologies Chief Johny Srouji is thinking about leaving, worriying teams that depend strongly on his guidance.
Srouji, who joined Apple in 2008, reshaped its chip strategy by driving the move to in-house silicon, helping improve performance and set Apple’s products apart from competitors.
Under Srouji’s leadership, Apple delivered the M-series chips that now power modern Macs, widely viewed internally as one of the company’s biggest technological advances in recent years.
Srouji has informed Tim Cook he is seriously considering leaving, Bloomberg reported, and has also suggested privately that he might join another firm, compounding Apple’s ongoing senior-level departures.
Srouji’s possible departure comes as rivals like Meta and OpenAI step up efforts to hire Apple engineers, adding pressure on a company already facing talent losses in key divisions.
Meanwhile, Tim Cook is reportedly trying to retain Srouji by offering higher compensation and expanded responsibilities, including a potential promotion to a chief technology officer-level position.
If Srouji departs, Apple is likely to look at internal leaders like Zongjian Chen and Sribalan Santhanam, both seasoned in the silicon division.
