Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd, the holding company of India’s top retailer, has appointed Jeyandran Venugopal, former Flipkart executive, as its President and CEO to drive growth and operational excellence.
In his role as CEO, Venugopal will work closely with Isha Ambani, Executive Director of RRVL, alongside Reliance Retail’s leadership team, under the overall direction of Mukesh Ambani and Group Executive Manoj Modi.
With 25 years of global experience in retail, e-commerce, technology and business transformation, Venugopal is set to enhance Reliance Retail’s portfolio, drive omnichannel expansion and strengthen operations across India.
Venugopal previously served as Chief Product and Technology Officer at Flipkart, leading extensive teams across product, engineering, data science, IT, security and infrastructure to drive digital innovation and business growth.
At Myntra and Jabong, acquired by Flipkart, he led product, engineering, and data organisations, scaling Myntra into India’s largest fashion platform while improving profitability and customer experience.
Venugopal has held senior leadership roles at Yahoo and Amazon Web Services, shaping global technology and commerce platforms and showcasing his expertise in managing large-scale digital retail ecosystems worth billions.
Venugopal earned dual Master’s degrees in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy.
For FY25, Reliance Retail recorded a consolidated turnover of ₹3.30 lakh crore, running 19,821 stores across 77.8mn sq. ft., and serving a registered customer base of 369mn across India.
Reliance Retail ranks 40th in Deloitte’s Global Powers of Retailing and is the only Indian retailer in the Top 100, according to Business Standard, with JPMorgan estimating its enterprise value at $112bn and equity at $102bn.
