The Punjab government has launched the 'Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana', offering free and cashless medical treatment up to ₹10 lakh annually to every family in the state, regardless of income, caste or background.
The scheme was formally launched by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal at a public event in Sector 35, Chandigarh. The event marked the official rollout of the universal health cover.
During the launch event, Arvind Kejriwal announced that all 3 crore people in Punjab are now covered under the scheme. From October 2, enrolment camps will be set up across the state to begin implementation.
Arvind Kejriwal highlighted that the earlier treatment cap of ₹5 lakh per family has now been doubled to ₹10 lakh. He assured that every Punjab resident—including government employees and pensioners—will receive free healthcare, without any income-based restrictions.
Health cards under the scheme can be made at Seva Kendras or Common Service Centres (CSCs). Citizens can also register online using an Aadhaar card or voter ID for convenient enrolment.
Kejriwal stated that under the scheme, any Punjab resident can access free treatment at government or empanelled private hospitals. No one will have to skip treatment due to financial hardship. He added that such a welfare step should have been taken 50 years ago, but past governments never prioritised it.
Kejriwal said AAP’s focus on healthcare and education stems from its belief that strong public services empower citizens to thrive. The ₹10 lakh cover is part of this broader mission to enable dignity and opportunity for all.
