Pete DeJoy has been appointed as the interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Astronomer, a Cincinnati-based data firm, following the sudden resignation of Andy Byron on July 19, 2025—the same day DeJoy assumed the role.
Pete DeJoy is one of the Astronomer’s original co-founders and helped to launch the Cincinnati-based data startup in 2017. He has played a key role in developing its data orchestration platform, which is widely used across AI and analytics sectors.
Before becoming interim CEO, DeJoy was Astronomer’s Chief Product Officer. As per his LinkedIn profile, he previously served as Vice President of Product, helping drive the company’s strategic growth.
Pete DeJoy holds a degree in chemistry and physics from Bowdoin College. Early on, he contributed to product development and worked across various roles, shaping his hands-on leadership approach.
Pete DeJoy’s leadership has been welcomed by some in the tech sector. Tembo CEO Ry Walker called him “an amazing co-founder and friend” on X (formely twitter).
Andy Byron stepped down as CEO after a viral video showed him on a kiss cam with Kristin Cabot, Astronomer’s Chief People Officer (CPO), during a Coldplay concert in Boston. Byron, who is married, faced public backlash following the incident. Cabot continues in her role at the company.
Astronomer’s board has launched a formal search for a new CEO. In the interim, co-founder Pete DeJoy will lead operations. The company said leadership must meet a “high standard” that was “not met recently.”
While it’s unclear if DeJoy will stay on permanently, his focus will be on steadying the company. His leadership is expected to play a crucial role in guiding Astronomer through this transitional phase.
