During a 35-minute call, US President Trump invited PM Modi to visit the US after the G7 Summit in Canada. However, Modi declined due to prior commitments but invited Trump to India for the next Quad meet. Trump accepted, saying he's excited to visit.
At the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, PM Modi met key global leaders: Emmanuel Macron (France), Claudia Sheinbaum (Mexico), Lee Jae-myung (South Korea), Mark Carney (Canada), Keir Starmer (UK), Giorgia Meloni (Italy), Cyril Ramaphosa (South Africa) and Anthony Albanese (Australia).
During a bilateral meeting with Canadian PM Mark Carney at the G7 Summit, Modi also expressed gratitude for the invitation to the G7, saying, “I am very grateful to you for inviting India to the G7, and I am also fortunate that I have got this opportunity to visit Canada once again after 2015 and connect with the people of Canada.”
Modi highlighted the significance of India-Canada relations, noting mutual investments and shared democratic values. “Canada and India will have to strengthen democracy together, will have to strengthen humanity,” he said during the G7 bilateral.
Highlighting India’s growing influence, PM Modi said, India is the largest democratic country in the world. As the chair of the G20 Summit, India has taken many initiatives that are beneficial for the world. Today, there is a great opportunity to take the strong foundation that India has laid in the G20 in a new form towards its execution in the G7.
PM Modi held his first bilateral tête-à-tête with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz since Merz took office in May 2025. Modi thanked Germany for its condolences over the Ahmedabad plane crash. Both leaders agreed on the urgent need to counter global terrorism.
On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi met Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum for the first time. Randhir Jaiswal, Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, described the meeting as “warm and historical,” calling it a key moment in India-Mexico relations.
PM Modi met South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and reaffirmed their Special Strategic Partnership. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said both leaders aim to enhance cooperation in trade, technology, green hydrogen, shipbuilding, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
On 18 June, PM Modi leaves for the Republic of Croatia, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the country. He will meet President Zoran Milanović and PM Andrej Plenković to boost bilateral cooperation.
